As an entrepreneurial mum, there’s always something on the go—whether it’s managing business tasks, running after the kids, or finding time for personal passions. We juggle so many priorities that often, taking a break feels like an impossible luxury. But what happens when your body forces you to hit pause?
Recently, I found myself under the weather, and as much as I wanted to power through, my body had other ideas. When you’re used to moving at 100 miles an hour, it can be hard to stop, rest, and recover. It wasn’t just the physical rest I needed—it was the mental reset. And let’s face it, that’s often the most challenging part.
Thankfully, my husband knows just how to take care of me when I’m feeling down. His homemade chicken soup is like comfort in a bowl, warming me up and helping me feel more grounded. It’s the little things that make such a difference during times like these. But even though I was well cared for, there was something I really missed: my exercise routine and getting outside.
Today was my first walk in over a week, and I can’t tell you how good it felt to be back out here, even if I was taking it easier than usual. There’s something about fresh air and movement that rejuvenates the soul. I’ve learned that sometimes it’s not about pushing yourself to the limit but about easing back in, listening to your body, and allowing yourself the grace to recover.
It’s tough, though, isn’t it? As entrepreneurs, mums, and businesswomen, we’re conditioned to keep going, to push through. But the truth is, if we don’t stop to rest and care for ourselves, we’re no good to anyone—least of all ourselves.
So, what is my takeaway from this little hiccup? It’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to rest. And sometimes, it’s precisely what we need to come back stronger.
Let’s remember to put ourselves first, even if it’s just for a little while. Our businesses, families, and passions will all benefit when we operate from a place of health and vitality.
